If you’re self-building your home this year, you may wish to know that the new building control regulations have been relaxed starting the 1st of September 2015.  You will now have the choice to opt out of statutory certification – but you will have to show by ‘alternative means’ that you have met your obligations ( i.e. prove that you’re building to current standards). A word of caution, it is still unclear what approach lending institutions may take towards this new development. We would strongly advise that you meet with your lending institution before deciding which approach to take to ensure that they are willing to lend to you on the 'opt out' approach.
